Cliff's Story
I am content and feel secure that I can stay at Emmaus as long as I need to.
I had a live in job cleaning in a pub for 8 and ½ years, my room was the tiny ex laundry room which was a bit damp but I was happy there. However due to debts and unpaid bills, the Pub suddenly closed down and I was made homeless.
I was on the streets for a little bit and stayed at a friend’s for a while. I had seen Emmaus being built and when I went to the day centre they helped me complete an application form for Emmaus. I was concerned my previous history may mean I would not eligible but I came and visited a member of staff and we had a chat and it was reassured it would not be a problem. I moved in the next day and had my hair cut straight away.
I enjoy it here, I have my moments but that is normal. I usually get a decent nights sleep. We have a good crowd of companions and I love my role cleaning at Emmaus. I like to be my own boss and take a pride in my work.
