HRH The Duchess of Cornwall

The Duchess of Cornwall became Patron of Emmaus in 2006. Since then she has visited a number of Emmaus communities across the UK, getting to know companions and staff. In 2013, she travelled to Paris with three Emmaus companions to visit one of the oldest Emmaus communities and learn more about the history of the Emmaus movement.

Terry Waite CBE

Terry Waite became President of Emmaus UK shortly after his release from captivity in Lebanon in 1992. As an envoy for the Church of Englan, he travelled to Lebanon to try to secure the release of four hostages. He was himself kidnapped, he spent 1763 days in captivity, the first four years of which were spent in solitary confinement.

Terry’s experience in captivity gave him a great insight into the misery, isolation, fear, boredom and despair that many homeless people go through. His empathy with thos who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion makes him a much loved President.
